Our story
Toby came out of a simple observation: running a trade business from a workshop is a lot harder than running one from a desk. So we built the tool we wished existed.
Furniture maker
Joe makes fitted furniture, mostly wardrobes, kitchens and alcove units, and the making has always been the part he enjoys.
The harder part is keeping on top of customers and projects while he’s in the workshop or out on site. There are quotes to send, people waiting to hear back, jobs at different stages, and most of it ends up carried around in his head.
He’s rarely at a desk, so the usual ways of staying organised never really worked for him.
Software engineer
Chloe builds software for a living, which means she spends her days at a desk.
The problems Joe runs into don’t really come up in her world. When everything’s in front of you on a screen, staying organised is fairly easy. She could see how different it is when your hands are full and your office is a van.
The tools she used to keep organised were never going to fit the way Joe works, so she helped him build one that does.
The dog
Toby is our dog, and he’s where the name comes from. He’s dependable, he’s always watching, and he never drops the ball.
That’s the job we handed the app. Keep an eye on everything so you don’t have to carry it all around in your head.
The tool should fit the work, not the other way round. If you’re on site or in the workshop, you shouldn’t have to stop and type things into boxes. You should be able to say it, and have it handled.
And your data is yours. Toby keeps a record of your work and hands it back when you need it. You can export it or delete it whenever you like.
